Further details for autumn event released

Further information about this autumn's Apex Challenge event is now available online. We are busy planning our biggest ever event to celebrate 10 years since our first competition in 2002.

The contest is returning to where it all began on the weekend of 5-7 October at Burbage and Longshaw in the Peak District.

Check out the event information so far. Full details will be online by the end of July and entries will open online in late August/early September.

For now, make sure you have got the dates noted down. You can use our electronic flyer to forward on to your friends and make sure they have the date saved too.

Apex up for national award!

The Apex Challenge has been shortlisted as one of the finalists in the national 'Technology 4 Good Awards', which showcases the best ways charities use technology.

The South Yorkshire based team is one of just four finalists in the Innovation category - selected for the way they have used technologies such as electronic scoring, instant results, graphical simulations and the Apex smartphone app.

Technology has always been at the heart of the Apex Challenge, and over the last ten years the team has worked hard to develop innovative new solutions to make the adventure events appealing and relevant to the young people taking part.

Event Director Matt Richards says, "This is clearly a great achievement and a huge illustration of how well-regarded the Apex Challenge events have become. It's all down to our team's dedication, enthusiasm and months of work behind the scenes which makes the events so highly thought of.

"It's a huge honour to be named as a finalist alongside other very worthy charities. Some of those shortlisted are huge multi-national organisations, so it's great that the Apex Challenge is named alongside them for the innovative use of technology."

New investment for Apex future

The Apex Challenge will be stepping up its training for the ever-growing team of volunteers, thanks to a generous grant from the Co-operative.

The substantial donation from the Co-operative Membership Community Fund will be used to pay for a range of training courses which will increase the skills of the Apex Challenge team, to further enhance the events.

The cheque was presented to the charity trustees today at one of the Co-op's stores in Leeds.

Event Director Matt Richards says "This money will enable us to send members of our team on a wide range of courses, which will give us even greater capacity to improve the Apex Challenge events."

"From qualifications in catering, to courses in electrical safety and watersports management, this will equip our team with even greater skills for the future."

Steve Jarrett, from the Co-operative Membership Community Fund added, "We were particularly impressed with the application from the Apex Challenge who clearly put on some impressive events. We're keen to fund projects which will have a lasting legacy and this training should do just that."

The volunteer team are now spending the summer devising plans for the charity's biggest ever event in October. Entries will open online in August.

The grant will pay for training for our technical, watersports and catering teams.
