The 2018 design is still under wraps but it'll be revealed VERY soon.

31 Things About Apex: Trying something new

There will be some things you have done before and they will be great to enjoy doing all over again.

But one of the really great things about Apex is the chance to do something new and hopefully find another activity you would like to enjoy again and again.

So much is packed into the three days that you are bound to find something there which you haven't seen anywhere else before.

31 Things About Apex: Spotting the team that's really on it

Some teams come to Apex just for a fun weekend but some others are more competitive and you can often spot them before you even set off.

They'll be working out their plan of what to and when. They'll be synchronising their watches. And they'll be setting off at a real sprint.

Chances are by the end of Sunday afternoon they'll be near the top of the leaderboard and might even win. Look out for them!

31 Things About Apex: Having your team's electronic tag

You need to spend your weekend working as a team but at each stage of the event, one person has slightly more responsibility than any other.

As you set off from event centre you'll have your team's electronic tag fixed to your wrist and you need to make sure it doesn't fall off and get lost.

Your tag collects all your points from the event and it's really satisfying every time you place it in a control and see the lights flash and it hear it beep to show you it's registered.

31 Things About Apex: Finding yourself in hundreds of photos

Throughout your three days at Apex, everything you do is caught on camera by a team of photographers.

By the time you leave on Sunday afternoon, literally hundreds of their pictures will be online for you to like and share on social media.

Scroll through the album and you're guaranteed to find yourself, even if you didn't spot the picture being taken in the first place.

31 Things About Apex: Turning up in fancy dress

When you're planning a tough weekend of outdoor activities, you need to make sure you've got all the right kit, especially the right clothes.

Despite that, it's amazing how many teams decide to stash their warm base layers and waterproofs in the rucksacks and set off in some fairly elaborate fancy dress.

There have been minions, fluorescent tutus, smurfs, super heroes and head-to-toe lycra jump suits, to name just a few.

31 Things About Apex: Chasing a giant parrot

Let's not pretend this is anything other than fantastically random ... chasing a giant escaped parrot.

Certainly don't ask why you're doing it, just accept that you are and remember that if you catch the parrot you get LOADS of Apex points.

And how do you find the parrot? Certainly not by listening out for it squawk - because this parrot TWEETS ... on Twitter that is!

31 Things About Apex: Getting wet and muddy

You've got to be ready for any conditions at the Apex Challenge because you never know where you will end and what you will end up doing.

The activities can get pretty messy but that just adds to the excitement of doing them. But it does mean there's a good chance you will end up wet and muddy.

You might start off the day thinking you will try to stay clean and dry but by the end of it, the adrenaline kicks in and you stop noticing!

31 Things About Apex: Rocking out to a great band

Apex might be three days of adventure but non-stop action is fairly tiring - which is why Saturday night is about taking time out.

Over the past few years we've got the party started with some really great bands playing some really big songs.

The music's loud, the lights are flashing and there's plenty of space to show off your best dance moves.

31 Things About Apex: Sunday morning's Adventure Race

If Saturday's all about the activities then Sunday is all about the speed and agility as you set off on the Apex Adventure Race.

But you're not just pounding the pavement or doing laps on a track. You'll be tackling a 5K run packed with obstacles.

Make sure you don't wear yourself out on the Saturday because you'll definitely need some energy left for this.

31 Things About Apex: Winning is about the honour not the prizes

If you win the Apex Challenge you'll be leaving with an armful of prizes including T-shirts, trophies and an unmissable banner for your Scout hut.

But the real prize is the honour of knowing your team has finished on top and will forever be named in the Apex winners' hall of fame.

Many teams have taken part but very few have come out on top and knowing your team has beats any prize!

31 Things About Apex: Everyone together for the first time

100 teams means almost 400 Scouts. Then there's around 100 adults making it all happen. That's a lot of people to fit in one place.

The first time you'll see everyone in one place is when you're all filling the main marquee for the first time and the event briefing kicks off.

There's such a buzz in there as you find out what the weekend has in store and realise you're part of all of it.

31 Things About Apex: Seeing the whole marquee flash red

On your first night at Apex you'll have been out collecting as many points as you can. It's midnight and pitch black outside.

Then you're sitting in the marquee watching all the other teams arrive back, and as they do, you know instantly if any are late back or they've had points taken away for being caught by the Apex chasers.

How? Simple ... the whole marquee goes from being a normal colour to flashing red! It's instant and impossible to miss!

For weeks you've been counting down to the biggest weekend in the Scouting year but it still feels ages away.

Then you get to the last Friday of school and lessons seem to drag ON and ON and ON till finally the day's over and you can set off.

And when you finally arrive, your tent's up and you can enjoy the fact that you've got three days of Apex fun to enjoy.

31 Things About Apex: ITV's Jon Mitchell doing the weather

If you're spending three days in a field, you're going to want to know if it'll be sunny or not.

When Apex needs a weather forecast they get it from a genuine expert - ITV forecaster Jon Mitchell - who's now become an Apex legend.

Each event he films a special update so you know if you need to be swapping your shorts for waterproofs.

31 Things About Apex: Full results instantly to take away

There's no waiting days or weeks to get the full results from Apex - it's instant. You get it all right there, at the weekend.

The scores update live on the website right through the weekend and before you leave on the Sunday you get a full personalised printout for your team with your own photo and map of everything you've done.

Once you've done a few Apex competitions they're a great record of what you did to keep forever.

31 Things About Apex: Inflatables aren't just child's play

If you thought inflatables were just child's play, think again.

Apex usually starts with a giant inflatable assault course, but this is no bouncy castle. Who knew getting across with a rucksack could be such a challenge?!

By the end of the weekend you'll be experts at going both ways across it as you start and finish each part of your challenge!

31 Things About Apex: Time out on Saturday night

Three days would be a long time be doing tough activities non-stop and Saturday night is your chance for time out to relax.

You will have just been out with your team for six hours tackling as many challenges as you can to earn Apex points and you will have certainly earned some time out.

There's music, food and around 400 people to get the party started!

31 Things About Apex: The big group photo

There are always tons of photos of all the best of the Apex action but there is one photo that you are guaranteed to find yourself in.

Before the end of the event, everyone gets together for the big group photo, usually with the camera up really high.

THIS is definitely the one picture you want to find yourself in, get tagged in and share with all your friends.

31 Things About Apex: That 'You and Me' song

One of the great things about Apex is plenty of music throughout the weekend. It's mostly loads of big tunes from the chart but there's one song that pops up again and again.

Somewhere in the playlist you're bound to hear 'You and Me' by Uniting Nations. It's pretty old now. It was released in 2004 but it's become a bit of an Apex tradition.

You might never hear it anywhere else but you know you're at Apex when you hear it. And it's pretty good tune!

31 Things About Apex: Always reaching new heights

It's not compulsory to have a head for heights to tackle the Apex Challenge but it definitely helps with some of our most adventurous events.

Whether it's climbing, abseiling, or getting across a massive purpose built mountain to just start the event, we've made sure our teams climb to the top of all sorts of different places.

And when people say don't look down - don't believe them ... it's a great view!

31 Things About Apex: The famous Apex obstacles

You've come across obstacles elsewhere, but surely none compare to the famous Apex obstacles that always make an appearance at our events.

There's the smoke-filled tent, the tunnel of doom, the barbed wire run and of course the barrel squeeze.

You're pretty much guaranteed to find yourself tackling them all at some point so get practising.

31 Things About Apex: Really random but really fun activities

When you think about Apex you probably start off by thinking about the big activities like climbing, axe throwing or abseiling, but that's just half the story.

It's really great when you arrive at an activity and find something so random you've never seen anything like it before, and you laugh so hard trying to tackle it.

There are always some surprises hiding around the playing area so check every corner of the event map to make sure you don't miss any!

31 Things About Apex: All the best music through the weekend

What's THE song of the summer? You know - the one you've been streaming most days. Chances are it'll be the soundtrack to Apex too.

We've got some pretty big speakers and your favourite songs sound pretty good when they're coming through them.

It wouldn't be Apex without plenty of music.

31 Things About Apex: It's three days of non-stop action

Some events last just a few hours, some a full day but with Apex you get three days of action.

From arriving on Friday night, all the way through Saturday and carrying on into Sunday, there's so much to do in what will be an unforgettable weekend.

But don't worry if that sounds pretty tiring - there's plenty of time to take a break in between the action.

31 Things About Apex: Finding the best camping spot for your tent

It is up to you where you pitch your team's tent for the weekend, so make sure you take the time to pick the best camping spot.

You might want to be right next the other teams from your Scout group, or you might want to go it alone and pitch up on the far side of the field.

Arrive early and you will have the pick of the field - make sure you get a good place!

31 Things About Apex: Getting a starring role in the Apex film

Make sure you keep an eye out for the film crew who will be following you around Apex all weekend. That way you can be sure you'll have a starring role in the Apex film.

The cameras aim to capture all the action from the dozens of activities you will be tackling all weekend so you can watch it again and again afterwards. You WILL feature in it somewhere!

Get a first look at the film at the results presentation on Sunday, then you can buy a copy on DVD and watch it online afterwards where you can share it with all your mates.

31 Things About Apex: Selfies with your new Apex friends

As soon as you arrive at Apex you're in the middle of a crowd of literally HUNDREDS of Scouts from all over the country. Some you recognise from previous events but most you've never met before.

There's tons of time to get to know people from the other teams. Before you know it, you feel like you've known them forever and you're all getting selfies to tag and share.

Meeting so many other people is definitely one of the best things about the Apex Challenge.

31 Things About Apex: Seeing the marquee lit up as you arrive

Maybe you've been on the road for a few hours heading to Apex. The minibus ride feels like it's taken FOREVER. It's been dark for ages and suddenly it's there - in the distance at the side of the road - the Apex marquee.

How can you tell it's the Event Centre? Probably because it's lit up like Blackpool Illuminations with lights flashing and the music playing. It LOOKS and it SOUNDS like Apex and you know the waiting is finally over!

Especially when you see it after dark, the glow of the lights make it look so inviting. You can't wait for the minibus to park up and to get on with your weekend of Apex fun.

31 Things About Apex: Escaping the Apex chasers

Nothing beats that feeling of catching a glimpse of one of the Apex Chasers out of the corner of your eye and sprinting as fast as you can and managing to get away from them before they steal your hard earned Apex points.

You'll most often find the chasers during the night-time stages of the event. If they catch you, you lose 25 points, which is equivalent to half the points you get for completing one activity. It's a penalty you just don't need.

They might have a good go at running, but some teams do manage to dodge them and hang onto their points. Priceless!

31 Things About Apex: Really adventurous activities

Every Apex is different, but there are some activities that are pretty much ALWAYS there and we wouldn't want it any other way.

If there are crags you'll be rock climbing or abseiling, or maybe both. Perhaps a spot of weaselling too. If there's water, chances are you'll be out on a boat in the middle of it. You'll probably find yourself hurtling around doing some extreme mountain biking and there's often some rifle shooting, archery and even pistol shooting to show off your target-hitting skills as well.

You never know what you're going to find during the weekend, but a quick look at the map and you can often have a pretty good guess and these big hitting A-list activities are always winners and not to be missed.
