First entries arrive for T-shirt competition

They’re bright green and need to be seen! So where have you been in your 2009 Apex Challenge T-shirts?
We’ve heard of people travelling the world while wearing them with pride, and we want to see you in action. Send us any pictures of you wearing your Apex t-shirt in interesting or adventurous places – and the most extreme will win a brand new digital camera!

Already we’ve received entries like this one of the Explorers from Phoenix ESU in Doncaster, wearing their Apex t-shirts while tackling the Lotschenpass Glacier in Switzerland.

And the youngest member of the Apex Organising team, four-month-old Joe has been proudly wearing his exclusive Apex baby-grow in the Peak District.

So what have you been up to? Email your photos to us and we’ll add them to the site. And remember the best will win a brand new digital camera. The address is:

Dates for 2010 events confirmed

We might be busy working hard on preparations for the 2009 Apex Extreme but it's not stopped us looking further into the future and we've just managed to confirm the dates for our two competitions in 2010.

The Apex Overnight Challenge will be returning to Sherwood Pines Forest Park on the weekend of Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th April. We're hoping that event will be bigger than previous ones we've held there including more activity bases and allowing more teams to take part.

The 2010 Apex Extreme will be held at a brand new location in the Peak District. The action will take place on the weekend of Friday 8th - Sunday 10th October with the event being based at the Gradback Scout Centre. It's a place we've never used before and we're already buzzing with new ideas to make use of the extensive area available for the competition on three sides of the event centre.

For now, make sure the dates are in your diary and more details about the events will be announced in the new year!

New blog launched

A brand new Apex Challenge blog has just been launched and is now available on the event website.

We've introduced the blog to replace the old news section of the site. The revamp should make it much easier for us to publish the very latest event news as quickly as possible. Any of the Apex Team can contribute to the blog at any time.

The blog is also set up so you can leave comments on any of our stories as well and it'll be great to hear your thoughts on what we're doing in the run up to each of our events.

We've copied across to the new blog all our old news articles so you can still look back through them and see what happened at previous events. But because the new system is much quicker to update we're hoping to be able to put loads more quick updates on the blog than we could manage with the previous news articles.

Over the past few days we've been testing the blog out as we wanted to get it online as fast as we could. There'll be slight tweaks to it here and there over the next few days and weeks and if you have any ideas how you think it could be improved please leave us a comment and tell us!

Entries open for 2009 Apex Extreme

It's the biggest adventure competition of its kind in the UK - and you're now invited to be part of this amazing weekend of action!

The Apex Extreme is a tough adventure competition which is spread across an entire weekend. It's your chance to face a range of challenges while finding your way through forests and open moorland. You can expect to be rock climbing, canoeing, mountain biking, and completing tough assault courses as you race against hundreds of others to collect Apex points.

It will be physically and mentally demanding but also a great experience. With better adventure challenges than ever before, this is certainly one you won't want to miss.

This year we're returning to the world-famous Ilkley Moor - a stunning setting for this spectacular competition.

It's open to all Explorer Scouts and Scout Network members from across the UK. Already we've got teams planning to join us from as far away as Devon and the Scottish Highlands. So grab a few mates and make sure you're all part of it.

There's space for 70 teams to take part. Bear in mind last year's event filled up so quickly, we had to turn several teams away - so get your teams registered early.

Check out the full details about the Apex Extreme and enter online now! We look forward to seeing you in October to Join The Adventure!
