Provisional 2013 event dates announced

If you were hoping to take part in our next event but didn't manage to secure one of the 100 places before they sold out, we would really like to see you at one of our events during 2013 instead.

Having spent 2012 celebrating our first ten years of adventure we have big plans to start off our second decade with two more events that you won't want to miss!

On the weekend of Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 April we will be taking the Apex Challenge back to Sherwood Pines Forest Park in Nottinghamshire which has been a favourite location for both the organising team and competitors for many years. It will have been two years since our last visit there and it will be great to go back.

Our autumn event will take place on the weekend of Friday 4 to Sunday 6 October. We are currently looking at a brand new location for the competition in North Yorkshire but don't yet want to spoil the surprise of where that is. It's an area not normally open to the public and is sure to make a spectacular backdrop for a weekend of exciting activities.

So far these dates are only provisional but we are hoping they won't have to change, so make a note in your calendar. We will have more details early in the new year.

Event sells out in record time

What a morning! Across the country Explorer Scouts, Network teams and leaders have been frantically bashing their keyboards to enter the Apex Challenge.

The event has now sold out in an incredible 50 minutes, faster than ever before. Congratulations to all those who have managed to secure a place, and apologies to those who weren't successful. Teams can still register for our waiting list, and places will be made available should others drop out.

Looking through the team list, it's great to see entries from many different areas of the country. Seventeen counties will be represented in October's competition including places as far afield as Berkshire, Durham and Clwyd.

Wherever you've entered from, congratulations, and your Apex adventure starts here! See you in October!

Entries now open for next event

Entries for our tenth anniversary event are now open. Now's the time to get your team's place in this October's competition confirmed. Last year's event sold out in just an hour and a half and we know there's going to be a rush on places for this year's event too.

100 teams will be taking part in the three day event from Friday 5 October to Sunday 7 October at the Burbage and Longshaw estate in the Peak District, the same location that was used for the first Apex Challenge event in 2002.

So many teams are determined to make sure they have their places in the event confirmed that we have even heard about Apex entry parties taking place with teams gathering around laptops to enter the event. We want to see your pictures and and hear your stories about getting your teams entered.

It's just 50 days away - and entries open on Saturday!

Entries for this October's massive Apex Challenge adventure event open this weekend, with teenagers and leaders from across the country devising all sorts of innovative ways to secure their places.

There are just 100 team places available for the weekend-long adventure event which is taking place in the heart of the Peak District in October. The online entry form goes live on the Apex Challenge website this Saturday (18 August) at 10am. Make sure you've got all your team details ready in advance to secure your place. Remember last year's event sold out in just a matter of hours.

We've already heard of some groups holding 'Apex entry parties' where they are gathering around laptops to enter as soon as the form goes live. Another group is arranging to enter from a hut in the Alps while they're on their summer trip to Switzerland!

Activities already being lined up for the October event will include the Apex classics of rock climbing, abseiling, mountain biking and grass sledging - together with brand new adventures including our first ever extreme caving activity. The event is open to Explorer Scouts and Scout Network members from across the UK.

This tenth anniversary event will be one of the biggest adventure events of its kind ever staged, and this weekend is your chance to be part of it.

Full details are available now at including event details, directions and kit lists.

We look forward to seeing you for the ultimate challenge!

Apex Intense is reborn

After a last-minute postponement in July, South Yorkshire Scouts has today confirmed that the major Synergise event at Hesley Wood will now be held in September.

It means the Apex Challenge's "Apex Intense" event will also now be taking place as part of this new weekend.

Hundreds of people from the youngest Cubs to the oldest leaders will get a taste of the Apex Challenge, as we are running a sprint version of the famous competition at South Yorkshire's celebration event at Hesley Wood. The revised date is now 13th-15th September 2012.

Cubs, Scouts, Explorers, Network members and leaders will be able to take on the Apex Intense as part of this massive weekend of activities in Sheffield. Groups from across South Yorkshire will be taking part.

The Apex Intense will be running throughout Saturday and Sunday where teams will be able to get a flavour of our events, by taking part in a one hour, sprint version of the competition - starting and finishing across one of the legendary Apex Challenge assault courses. There will be some top prizes for the winning teams in each section.

For more information, or to book your place at the event, contact Hesley Wood on 0114 246 7912 or head to the South Yorkshire Scouts website.
